Sage Snap
Privacy Policy
Sage Snap (the "App") is made by Backgammon Gaming Technologies LLC ("we", "us", "our"). It does one thing: you photograph a backgammon position, the App reads it, and the bot tells you the best play or cube decision. This policy says what we collect to do that, how we use it, where it lives, and how to get rid of it. We keep it plain because the App is plain.
We do not sell your personal data. The App contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics or attribution trackers, and this website sets no cookies and loads nothing from third parties — no fonts, scripts or trackers from anyone else.
1. What we collect
- ▸ Account identity. Your name, email address and a unique account id from our sign-in provider, Auth0 (Okta, Inc.), when you sign in with Apple, Google or an email address and password. We never see or store a password.
- ▸ The photos you take and the positions read from them. Each snap keeps a reduced copy of the photograph together with the position our reader found in it, any corrections you make, and the game settings (match score, cube, who is on roll) you choose.
- ▸ Analysis results. The bot's evaluation of each snap — the ranked plays or the cube verdict — is stored with the snap so it is there when you reopen it.
- ▸ Purchase state. Whether your account has unlocked the App, how many snaps you have taken, and the store's transaction id for the unlock purchase (so a purchase can be restored on a new phone). Payment itself is handled entirely by Apple or Google; we never see your card or billing details.
- ▸ Technical data. Standard information sent by your phone to any server: IP address, device type, app version and timestamps. Used only to run the service, keep it secure and diagnose problems.
The App uses the camera and the photo library only when you take or choose a picture of a board. It does not read your contacts, location or anything else on the phone.
2. How we use it
- ▸Read the board in your photo and show you the position.
- ▸Run the bot on the position and show you its verdict.
- ▸Keep your snaps so you can reopen them on any phone you sign in on.
- ▸Let you share a snap with someone else, when you choose to.
- ▸Confirm an unlock purchase with Apple or Google and restore it later.
- ▸Answer support requests and fix bugs.
Photographs are used to read the position in them, and may be used to improve the board reader — the software that turns a picture of a board into a position — so that it reads the next board better. They are never shown to anyone but you, unless you share the snap, and they are never used for advertising or sold.
3. Sharing a snap
When you share a snap, we make a copy of it — position, settings, photograph and analysis — under a share link such as snap.bgsage.ai/s/…. Anyone who has the link can see the position (a rendered picture of the board is public at that link) and, with the App, can open the snap and keep a copy of it. Only share a snap with people you are happy to show the photograph to. Deleting the snap, or your account, removes the share and its photograph; a copy someone else already saved into their own App stays theirs.
4. Where it is stored
Your account, the positions read from your snaps, your corrections and the analysis results are stored in MongoDB Atlas (MongoDB, Inc.) in the United States. The photographs themselves are stored in Amazon S3, part of Amazon Web Services, also in the United States, where our servers run. A photograph you submit is uploaded to be read; the transport copy used during the read is deleted automatically within seven days, and the reduced copy kept with the snap stays until you delete the snap or your account, at which point it is deleted too. If you use the App from outside the United States, your data is transferred to and processed there.
5. Third-party services
We rely on a small set of providers, each bound by its own privacy commitments:
- ▸Auth0 (Okta, Inc.) — sign-in. Holds your account credentials.
- ▸MongoDB Atlas (MongoDB, Inc.) — the database that stores your account and snaps.
- ▸Amazon Web Services — stores your photographs and hosts the servers that read them and run the bot.
- ▸Apple and Google — process the purchase on their stores and tell us whether it succeeded.
That is the whole list. There are no advertising, analytics or attribution partners.
6. How long we keep it
Snaps, with their photographs, stay until you delete them in the App. Your account and everything under it stay until you delete the account. An account deletion removes your snaps, photographs, shares and purchase record immediately and your sign-in account within a few days; nothing that identifies you is kept afterwards. Apple and Google keep their own record of a purchase under their own policies.
7. Deleting your account
In the App, open Settings → Delete account. This deletes your snaps, their photographs and analysis, every share you created, your purchase record with us and your sign-in account. It cannot be undone; an unlock purchase can still be restored through the store on a new account tied to the same Apple Account or Google account.
If you no longer have the App, email support@bgsage.ai from the address on the account and we will delete it for you. snap.bgsage.ai/delete-account has the details of both routes.
8. Your rights
You can ask us to show you the personal data we hold about you, correct it, export it, or delete it. Email support@bgsage.ai; we aim to respond within 30 days. Because we do not share data with advertising partners, there is nothing to opt out of under laws such as California's.
9. Security
All traffic between the App and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS), stored data is encrypted at rest, and access to production data is limited to the people who run the service. No system is perfectly secure; if we identify a breach affecting your data we will tell you promptly.
10. Children
Sage Snap is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email support@bgsage.ai and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time; the "Last updated" date at the top shows the latest revision. A material change will be pointed out in the App.
12. Contact
